Poetry

Whether it's for an English class or because of the need to express ourselves, many of us have written poetry. Often they don't garner a very wide audience -- a teacher, a lover, a friend, or maybe just ourselves. MoonCrow invites you to share your poetry with a wider audience here on our site.

To do so, please register and use the 'create content' content link to create a book for your poetry. All submissions will be considered and published if approved by the site editors. We check the site every day or so and will review submissions as quickly as possible.

Fugitive Pieces

Like many others, over the years I have written some poems. I am gathering what I hope are the best of them and presenting them here, not because they are staggering works of beauty, but because they have meaning to me and I would like to share them. I hope they speak to you or bring you pleasure or make you think. Please let me know if they do any of that for you. Thank you for reading them if you do.

Immortal Mice and Men?

Mice that can regrow organs, tails, and even digits were accidentally bioengineered in 1998. A by product of research into lupus, the mice were discovered to have the ability to regrow varios body parts that goes beyond the normal mouse's ability to regenerate. If the genes involved can be identified and then replicated in humans, then we may be a step closer to longer life spans or even bioengineered immortality. See this Wired News article for more information.

A $100 Laptop? Cool!

I ran across this via Slashdot today. An article CNET News.com about a project to produce $100 laptops primarily for distribution to school children in third world countries. I think it's a great idea and one we need here as well. One of the neat design aspects is a handle on the side so you can recharge it by cranking it when you're off the power grid. Another is a special screen display setting that would make text easily readible in daylight, making it a good candidate (or a version of it) for e-books.

Killer Dolphins Victims of Katrina?

I came across this and found it pretty strange--a blog entry referencing an article about the possibility that there are dolphins being trained to kill in the service of the US. Not only that, but they may have escaped during Katrina.

Whatcha Watching This Fall?

The new Fall 2005 TV season is here and I've started watching some of them -- at least the ones I can get using my $2.99 rabbit ears (I sure miss cable and my DVR cable box. Sigh.) So far I've caught Threshold, Surface, and Invasion (the three alien invasion series), Criminal Minds, and some of my favorites from last year (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desparate Housewives, Gilmore Girls, CSI, CSI:Miami, and Lost). So what are other folks watching? What do you think of them?
